The 60th IKCEST Training Programme for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology Development was held in the I-Harbor of Xi’an Jiaotong University from Oct 8th to 13rd, 2019. It was co-hosted by the International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (shortened as “International Knowledge Centre”, “IKCEST”) under the Auspices of UNESCO and Xi’an Jiaotong University, and was organized by IKCEST Silk Road Training Base. 198 foreign students in Xi’an Jiaotong University registered for the workshop. They are from 15 Belt-Road countries such as Pakistan, Egypt, Kazakhstan, etc.
This programme lasted for six days. Some of the most experienced teachers from Xi’an Jiaotong University gave lectures on the topics of High-Temperature Mechanical Behavior of Gas turbine, Elements of Aerospace Propulsion System, Soft Active Materials and Soft Machines, China’s Opening: A Historical Review, Ruler of the Future Sky -Unmanned Air Vehicle, Drop Impact Dynamics, A Brief Introduction to the Mechanics of Smart Materials: Theories and Applications, and Appreciation of Chinese Traditional Culture and Experience of Paper-cutting.
In addition, on the afternoon of October 9th, under the guidance of the staff, foreign students visited the Xi’an National Civil Aerospace Industry Base. The Aerospace Industry Base is a space technology industry and national gathering area for emerging strategic industry built by Shaanxi Provincial government and Xi’an Municipal Government in conjunction with China Aerospace Science and Technology Group Corporation. The base is also a city function bearing area for the construction of an internationalized metropolis in Xi’an. The trainees gained further understanding about the knowledge of aerospace application and China’s development in aerospace technology through this hands-on field experience.
Up till recently, 60 sessions of IKCEST Training Programmes for Silk Road Engineering Science and Technology Development have been held by Silk Road Training Base, training more than 5,000 foreign students from over 100 countries and staff from some export-oriented Chinese Companies. As an important mission of the IKCEST Silk Road Training Base, this training programme plays an important role in cultivating talents and promoting the Belt and Road Initiative. In the Meanwhile, it also made important contributions to the economic and social development of European, Asian and African Belt-road countries and regions.
The International Knowledge Centre for Engineering Sciences and Technology (shortened as “IKCEST”) is a category II centre under the auspices of UNESCO. IKCEST was established on June 2014. The Chinese Academy of Engineering is responsible for the operation and management of the IKCEST. IKCEST aims at providing knowledge-based services at a global scale in the form of consultancies, scientific research and education for policy-makers and engineering science and technology professionals in the world, with particular reference to the developing countries. In February 2017, based in Xi’an Jiaotong University, IKCEST Silk Road Training Base was established, which aims to train more engineering and technological talents for Belt-Road countries.
